I apologise if this is you on here and I'm only expressing my concern and not setting out to offend any one. I've been keeping an eye on the recent mbh being sold and I've noticed that on the horses that are likely to go for a lot of money such as jewl, picadoor and conker there is a particulal bidder that keeps seemingly putting very high bids on and considering they are bidding on the horses there number stays the same. When I bid on jewl she went for £215 then about 20 mins later I got a 2nd chance offer at £210 ... This to me seams way to fast a decision and I feel it may have been set up to see how much money they could get then retract the first bid. I declined this offer as tbh I couldn't afford this in the first place. Just now they got outbid on picadoor but they have placed bids on some others. Would this be just a very inexperienced buyer or could it be like a set up.I would like every one else's opinion on this.

I haven't been watching the auctions very carefully (although I did see how much Jewel went for) but it would only strike me as suspicious if it happened on multiple auctions from the same seller. Then if you think it's the seller or a friend of the seller pushing up the bids I suppose you could report it to eBay? On the other hand they might have just realised they needed that £215 for something else!
I didn't realise Picador and Conker had become so sought after either, what sort of prices are they fetching?

That was me who ended up with Jewel, but it was only due to a typo! So I dunno what'll happen now if you declined the second chance offer...
I know of the bidder you're talking about, they've been putting higher and higher max bids on pretty much all the models that rainbowmagic is selling, and with such a low feedback score tbh I'm a little concerned as well

I've bought most of the magazines except the ones that have gone for over £10 and I've not had any second chance offers for the ones I've been outbid on if that helps at all?

I don't think it's the seller doing it, I won a lot of the horses and others I lost out on there was no second chances either.
On the other hand, she told me she sold Jewel outside of Ebay, which has left me with issues because of an unpaid item case she opened to avoid fees for selling outside, so not exactly happy...anyone know who bought it?

Yikes, that's crazy. I wonder what they paid for Jewel. It does all sound a bit fishy to me. I also don't really like how the seller claims she won't end listings early but then shadily sold the model outside of eBay. Weird. Did she rectify that case Rach? That's bull she wanted to dodge eBay fees and put a mark against your account ! I don't even understand how that situation happened, I thought you turned down the 210gbp offer?

I don't know, I can sort of see her point - the seller fees would be quite high for an item that sold at that price. Especially if you never actually get the money due to accidental bids. (And she must be gutted that the bidding went so high and the item didn't really sell - I'm guessing she didn't get as much selling it off site) Even so, there must be a way to cancel the transaction without you getting a mark against your account and without her having to pay fees for something that didn't sell.
Also, I thought I saw another Jewel listed the other day - is it the same one or a different one?

She told me she sold it for £100, in the end I had to appeal the case and it got cleared, but I don't know what happened on her end.
That was the same Jewel that you saw Liz, the seller has an automatic relist thing set up as far as I can tell, it got taken down the same day.

Unless Ebay.co.uk selling is different than the US site, you don't pay fees unless you get paid for the item or if you close an unpaid case, and if Rach turned down the best offer the item would be considered unsold by ebay (that has happened to me a grand total of one times but the seller isn't held responsible for fees). I still do not understand why she opened an unpaid item case (or even how it was possible) if Rach turned down the offer, that's the only part that gets me. You're absolutely right Liz, on 215 gbp she'd have been paying 21.5gbp if there had been fees (if the site is the same as the US one) and that's a heck of a lot of money so I wouldn't blame her for not wanting to. I'm glad it got sorted out either way and that it sounds like it wasn't counted against you Rach . 100gbp is a pretty darn good price...in the years since I've been here has anyone really come across any? They do seem really rare.

Sanda I think you've got a couple wires crossed, I had the winning bid of 215, but it was a typo, so chestnutmare got the second chance offer of 210 because I told the seller mine was an accident. When she turned it down the seller must have gotten an offer from someone to buy outside.
As regards sightings, that was only the second one I've seen since I started collecting, but I can't remember what price the other one went for as it was about a year ago, it was the one Helene was selling

I always thought the second chance offer is an offer to pay your maximum bid if the item sale didn't go through or if the seller had a second one to sell. To get a second chance offer that high you would have needed 2 people to bid it up to that amount in the first place!
I've seen quite a few of Jewel over the last few years. I got mine on eBay at £2.20 for 2 of them! Although that was back in 2009/2010 I think

Wires crossed indeed-y. Now that makes sense. Ebay is so irksome because it doesn't take individual circumstances into account, like accidental bids. She would have been punished with seller fees without opening an unpaid item case, but that also would not have been right to you since you aren't a non-paying bidder. Thanks for clarifying that, I don't know why I was mixing you up with chestnutmare55. Must be too tired ! I wonder what accounts for the decrease in sightings in more recent years. Liz, how long have you been collecting?

I reckon decreased sightings are because of the ages people collected them. Most people in my opinion would be around the same age and most would of moved out their family home and sold alot of there stuff. The majority of it has been sold off online a few years ago or we have traded/bought across this site. Any one remember when a set containing sultan and pippin sold for over 200? Now I bet most collector's have that set. From a personal opinion I rarely search mbh on ebay so likely have missed loads. I bought jewl from helensby last year for around £20
