I finally got the stuff together to try pastelling this summer, then put the finishing touches on this guy when I got home for Christmas. It was a total learning curve - basecoat flaws show up so much more under pastels, I splattered the sealant everywhere at one stage which lifted the colour - and he's just an old Grand Champions body I'd had around for ages - but I'm really pleased with him Tutorials I used, both really helpful! (Edit: I didn't realise this'd show the whole video! Hope the owners don't mind!) www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9SqIchQuXswww.youtube.com/watch?v=nFr72xCSZlU&feature=relatedOh and I think he has too much mane and not enough tail, but like I said, I'm happy enough! And will hopefully improve with the next attempt! Also he needed a halter: And Irish Diamond needed one too, because he's bigger it was easier to make it more adjustable: Thanks for looking!

Kits he is gorgeous!!! I would never have guessed he was a Grand Champion to start with, you really colored him so majestically. It looks like a factory finish to me, everything is so clean. I love your halter work too, the little piece near the muzzle makes it look so professional. Did you buy those online, or make them?
Thanks for sharing the tutorials too, I wish I was good at painting/pasteling. I am very bad with traditional forms of art like that or I'd love to give this a try. the re-hair is so much nicer than any OF hair I've seen on a model horse. I love the realism.

Thank you so much!! I got the little metal pieces and buckles from utterly horses, but they're a UK site so maybe not the best for you, I think there's a US one called Rio Rondo? And the hair is mohair from Utterly Horses too but I think there are a few possible sites for buying that. I found the pastel tutorial really helpful, it was actually much easier than painting I thought but more time consuming for sure.

You're so welcome Ah I see, I didn't know there was a UK site like Rio!

What kind of primer did you use? I cannot make the pastel-thing work, i think my primer is wrong, it is very difficult to translate the english products used in youtubevideos into danish, and they seems clueless when i ask in hobby-stores :/

What!? That's the primer I use, but I cannot get the pastels to bind to it?
What do you use between the layers? I do not understand why I cannot make it work :/

Oh, how frustrating I use Testors Dullcote between layers, but the first layer goes directly onto the primer. My first layers were very, very pale though, it did take ages to build up proper colour.
