Ooh I like O'Leary! I was contemplating getting him, Tregoyd or Tunbridge since I like that mold. I settled on Tregoyd because I noticed some O'Learys had funky dappling, yours is lovely though
I was sooo tempted by Tunbridge because I liked his coloring but his price made me shy away since for his price I could get 2 regular runs or several classics.
I'd love to see more of yours when you have time Kits!! Secretariat is a pretty boy, I hope you get him this year
I'm really lucky, my mom is actually the one who got me into them; she had her childhood collection (a small handful) and as a kid I'd get the odd one here or there. These days I fund my own via commissions and selling off old clothes/things I don't need. My mom is so impressed with the quality of the new Breyers. She was used to the pre-2000 era ones (sloppy factory work, overspray, paint goobers everywhere, molding issues). She's in love with my Mamin and adores the Nokota mold (then again who doesn't!)
I like your Stablemates too Kits, especially that draft mold. I only have a handful of Stablemates.
I too had to use that hot water method to fix a leg, worked beautifully for me. What collectors recommended to me was to put the horse's foot in a plastic sandwich baggie before inserting it into a mug of hot water. Glossy finishes (and some regular paint run colors) can apparently get messed up from it otherwise. Speaking of warped Cleveland Bay molds, check out my warped Tregoyd!!! He was NIB, so this happened somehow in the past, probably via shipping. He was warped in the auction, I liked the weird tail and got him for an awesome price.
Most of my collection is at my mom's, I do have my most impressive Silvers here though. I know it looks pretty big but a lot of the hard core collectors have hundreds...I promised myself I won't be like that! As it is I need to figure out how to display them once I'm living in a more permanent place after I graduate.
Here are some pics, sorry for the horrid quality/ugly backgrounds. I'm moving out from my college place soon so my collection set up is reallllly temporary lol! I think some aren't pictured too, my Brishen (Premiere Club model from last year) isn't pictured anywhere and Strawberry Fields, the Bay Pinto Treasure Hunt Silver & the Sorrel Appaloosa Treasure Hunt Silver are also not photographed. Can you guess which one is the "Silver" mold I conga haha
?
My first custom tack, modeled on the Chestnut Treasure Hunt (short tail) Lady Phase. The tack still needs embellishments like conchos, haven't gotten around to making them yet.
These guys are now all at home again, I miss them!
Another Premiere Club model, Ashquar. Fire is on the right, another favorite of mine.
Baxter, not special but I just happened to not have him photographed with any others.
Breyer "I'm Yours", 2012 web special. I'm trying to sell her actually (love her color but not the tacky smooch pattern) but so far she's my most limited run (222) so I may want to keep her. Zeus is my other limited boy, I think his is either 240 or 220.
Here's Zeus and my Charcoal Treasure Hunt Silver (I'm in love with him pretty much. Limited to 500 but he is worth more than ones limited to half that number, it's a popular mold I guess). In the back are some other favorites, I love the drafters, I am SO sad they axed the draft B mold because of molding issues! Sorry my display is so yucky looking at the moment, bleh.
More Silvers, the Filigree Treasure Hunt Silver is in the back there
Close up of the micro minnies! I had those since I was a kid, my mom bought them for me as a present one year. I was just reading about them earlier, mine are from before Breyer bought the rights to make them from the Creata company. Younger collectors seem to really like these little guys these days. Personally I think the Creata paint jobs were nicer than the ones Breyer made.
More Silvers...
And finally the Classic bundle I nabbed for a measly $25 from a really nice seller. Actually most of mine were a good deal, I only got a little gypped on one or two and it wasn't by that much.
I'm excited, my custom Silver is arriving today, and I recently bought a Kanaretah & Stunt Double which got mailed today. Can't wait for them to arrive. I'm basically at collecting capacity both due to funds/space but man it is addictive. I think the only others I'm looking for now are Toreo, the Charcoal Running Stallion, a pair of Classics and a Bay (w/eyewhites) Fighting Stallion for my mom.
